Welcome to the Surgical Research Society of Southern Africa (SRSSA)

The main objective of our society is to encourage and facilitate research in Southern Africa. Our membership includes representatives from the medical schools in South Africa and those in Botswana Zambia Zimbabwe. It is my privilege to serve as president for the next two years.

The objective of the SRSSA, as defined in the constitution, is “to provide for the interchange of information about research work related to surgery”. In its present form the society provides a platform to network and collaborate in research four countries in southern Africa.

The SRSSA holds an annual meeting for the presentation of free papers from all the medical schools.  These meetings are hosted by all the medical schools. The last meeting, hosted by Stellenbosch University, was a virtual meeting.  The next meeting will be in June 2022 and will be hosted by Sefako Makgatho health Sciences University.

Our local executive committee consists of Tanya Augustine (Wits) John Dewar (Wits), Emmanuel Nweke (Wits), Pradeep Navsaria (UCT), Ed Jonas (UCT) and Ines Buccimazza (UKZN). The committee is ably supported by Mrs Susan Parkes.  We are privileged to have a close working relationship with other similar organisations: European Society for Surgical Research, The Surgical Research Society and The Society University Surgeons.

We look forward to your involvement with our society and please join us at our next meeting.
